Well, depending on your vehicle a dealer, we can actually save you money. It is always good to check with your dealer to see how much a new key would cost and what they require from you. This way you have an idea of what to expect and sometimes if no programming is required you can get an inexpensive key from them that works. Other cars only the dealer can program.
There are some things to keep in mind when you call a locksmith to come make you an ignition key. Some car keys require specific programming machines, specific key cutting machines and expensive dealer codes. If a lower quality machine is used, the key may not work correctly or have problems. Saving money here can be a mistake. Sometimes it is better to pay a little more and get something that works the way it should.
